MOUNTAINEERS PUNISH THE PRIDE 10-3

10/6/2007

After soundly defeating the Toledo Rockets last weekend 9-3, the Pride had a new challenge to face off against as the WVU Mountaineers rolled into town for another Friday night battle.

With the Mountaineers first year head coach Jeff Anderson at the helm, the Mountaineers quickly took advantage at the opening faceoff by converting on a powerplay opportunity just :18 seconds into the game to take the lead 1-0. The Pride had incurred a bench minor penalty in warmups for crossing the center red line and the referee quickly administered his brand of justice.

The tone of the game was set as the Pride watched six more even strength and two more power play goal tally through two periods.

The Pride finally got on the board 3:47 into the third period registering a power play goal by Sophmore Shane Smith. Three minutes later Senior, John Tomasetti buried another power play opportunity. Scoring the only other Pride goal of the night came from Junior Justin Summerville. WVU tallied another power play goal with just 1:12 remaining in the game as the Mountaineers went on to defeat the Pride 10-3.

With that loss behind us, Coach Snyder said, "I would not be surprised one bit to see WVU competing for the National Championship come this March", as the Pride tally their second loss of the season and a record of 3-2.

The Pride will face off again with the Mountaineers in Morgantown on Saturday. October 20th @ 4:30 PM.
